A career with purpose. A region with opportunity.
At Central Highlands Regional Council, you'll have the opportunity to make a genuine and lasting impact on the communities, infrastructure and services that support one of Queensland's most diverse and significant regions.
Central Highlands Regional Council spans approximately 60,000 square kilometres, from Arcadia Valley in the south to the Peak Ranges in the north, and from Boolburra in the east to Bogantungan in the west. Managing more than $1.9 billion in community assets, Council delivers a diverse range of services through libraries, aquatic centres, customer service centres, 4,632 kilometres of roads, extensive parks and recreational facilities and a regional airport.
Proud of its financial stability and with renewed energy across its leadership team, Council is focused on strengthening capability, improving systems and delivering sustainable outcomes for its communities.
More than numbers. More than an asset register.
Behind every community asset is a financial story. What it costs, how its value changes, when it needs to be renewed and how Council plans for its future.
As Asset Accountant, you'll play an important role in ensuring Council has accurate, reliable financial information to manage its infrastructure portfolio and make informed investment decisions.
Reporting to the Manager Finance, you'll work closely with finance, engineering, strategic asset management and program management, bringing together accounting expertise, asset information and practical business insights.
Your work will include:
- Maintaining accurate fixed asset registers, asset accounting policies, procedures and financial controls.
- Supporting annual asset revaluations, depreciation and disposals in accordance with accounting standards.
- Maintenance of the Works in Progress (WIP) register and accurate recording of asset capitalisations.
- Preparing asset accounting information for annual financial statements, external audit and long-term financial planning.
- Assisting with financial analysis to support lifecycle costing, renewal forecasting and infrastructure investment planning.
- Improving asset data integrity, reporting and processes across financial and asset management systems, including Asset MyData, TechnologyOne CiA and collaboration with GIS colleagues.
- Manage the preparation and reconciliation of Property, Plant and Equipment (PP&E) disclosures for annual statutory financial statements.
- Calculate and maintain contract asset and liability balances for externally grant funded projects in accordance with accounting standards and funding agreement requirements.
- Working across Council to strengthen asset accounting practices, share knowledge and support continuous improvement.
You'll also have opportunities to contribute to broader financial accounting and planning activities as your experience develops.
Bring your accounting expertise. Build on it.
You may already be an experienced asset accountant looking for a new challenge, or a strong accountant keen to diversify your experience and develop a valuable specialisation.
We're interested in both.
You'll bring sound accounting knowledge, analytical skills, an understanding of financial reporting and a practical approach to systems, data and problem-solving. You'll be comfortable working with different stakeholders and interested in understanding how financial information supports infrastructure decisions.
Experience in asset accounting, infrastructure or local government will be highly regarded, but Council is equally interested in capable accountants with the ambition to learn and develop.
Specialist technical support will be provided, creating an opportunity to build knowledge and progressively take ownership of the asset accounting function.
